HB 1445: The 1999 Supreme Court Olmstead decision ruled that unjustified segregation of people with disabilities in institutions is illegal discrimination under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and mandated that states provide community-based services to individuals with disabilities when appropriate, desired, and reasonably accommodated. HB1445 reaffirms Maryland’s commitment to the tenets and standards outlined in the Olmstead Act, ensuring that Maryland’s practices and laws align with federal Olmstead standards. While the House version did not pass before the end of the session at midnight on Sine Die the senate version did.
