Together Let’s Build A Thriving District 16

District 16 Delegate Sarah Wolek Files to Run For Second Term in Maryland House of Delegates

BETHESDA, Md. [September 25, 2025]

District 16 Delegate Sarah Wolek has filed to run for a second term in the Maryland House of Delegates.

“It has been an incredible privilege to represent District 16 in the House of Delegates. I am seeking another term to continue strengthening our state’s social fabric, building our economy, and protecting our most vulnerable,” Wolek said. “My goal as a legislator is to create human-centered policies that enable Marylanders to live more meaningful, fulfilling lives.”

Sarah Wolek joined the House of Delegates in 2023 and currently serves on the House Appropriations Committee covering education and economic development budget and policy issues. She is the Co-Chair of the Montgomery County House Democratic Caucus, a role to which she was unanimously elected by her colleagues. In addition, she is a member of the Joint Committee on Pensions and is an Executive Board Member of the Women Legislators of Maryland.

As a legislator, Delegate Wolek serves all generations of Marylanders where it matters most. Her legislative successes include building social connections for seniors, prioritizing the wellbeing of children and young adults, advancing housing data transparency, and promoting financial literacy, security, and inclusion, efforts that earned her recognition as an Arc of Maryland 2024 Legislator of the Year.

Prior to serving in the legislature, Wolek taught human flourishing and wellbeing as a professor at the University of Maryland Smith School of Business. She started her career in public service spending over a decade in the federal government including roles at the US Department of Commerce, the White House Office of Management and Budget, the United States Mission to the United Nations, the US Department of Treasury, and the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. She brings practical expertise in budget oversight, economic policy, and diplomacy to her work in Annapolis.

“It is essential for Maryland’s future that we advance our progressive agenda and not cede ground to Trump,” Wolek said. “In District 16, we believe in democracy, in the rule of law, in public service, in human dignity, in reproductive freedom, in science, and in protecting our planet. I remain fiercely committed to fighting for these values on our behalf in Annapolis, and have the skills and experience to do so effectively. Marylanders are resilient and together we will create a brighter future for our state.”

Wolek, with deep roots in Montgomery County, is a graduate of MCPS, and, together with her husband, is raising three children in District 16, all of whom also attend MCPS. A skilled legislator with a genuine dedication to her community and an innovative policy agenda, Delegate Wolek has earned the respect and support of more than 60 current and former legislative General Assembly leaders.

House Speaker Adrienne Jones

“As the Speaker of the Maryland House of Delegates, I’ve watched Sarah Wolek fight for the residents of District 16 every day. In just her first term, she has passed legislation supporting seniors aging in place, the wellbeing of children and young adults, and data-driven housing policies.

With new attacks coming from the Trump Administration every day, she is on the frontlines for District 16, fighting back against reckless policies that target federal workers and our most vulnerable communities. In these challenging times, we need leaders like Delegate Sarah Wolek who are responsive and always ready to stand up for our values.”

Authentic, rooted in service, and guided by integrity, Delegate Sarah Wolek is serving with courage and conviction to fight for our future—because Maryland deserves leadership as strong and determined as the people who call it home.
