Robert H. Smith School of Business faculty member Sarah Wolek became District 16's newest member in the Maryland House of Delegates on April 3, after being appointed by Gov. Wes Moore to fill a vacancy. Wolek, who was one of 18 people who applied for the role, is the first Muslim woman in the state legislature.

Sarah Wolek, former chief of staff at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity and professor at University of Maryland Robert H. Smith School of Business, will be nominated to fill a vacant seat in District 16 of the House of Delegates.

The Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee on Tuesday night nominated Sarah Siddiqui Wolek for a vacancy to serve in the House of Delegates representing Bethesda-based District 16.
